I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. It's a New Year and a New Season is just around the corner! 

I wanted to touch base and provide some tentative dates and other information for this season. 

TENTATIVE DATES:

AVAILABLE CHAIRPERSON FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON: 

Our team can not exist without the volunteer efforts of our parents and family members. This season I am trying to scale back my immediate responsibilities. If you would like to volunteer in a more substantial role this season, I am looking for help in the following areas: 

Volunteer Coordinators 2-3 parents working together for the season to manage weekly volunteer sign up, volunteer check-in at swim meets, answer general volunteer questions through email/text and at swim meets 

Bullpen Liaison communicates with coaches, bullpens, and computer operator prior to meet starting/during the meet about changes in swimmers races or events. Provides support to Bullpen Parents during meets. 

If you were a 2022 Chairperson and feel like you can not volunteer in that same role, please let me know ASAP.

ASSISTANT OR JUNIOR COACHES:

We are looking for a small group of responsible teens, 13 years or older, that are interested in being apart of our Coaching Staff this upcoming season. The role of a Junior Coach is to assist in areas where coaches or volunteers need extra hands while at the same time we are training these coaches for future coaching opportunities on the swim team. This season Junior Coaches will be run differently than in years past. The Hammerheads will take on a maximum of four Junior Coaches in 2023. Each week a sign up genius will be sent out for practice and Junior Coaches will sign up for slots to assist. There will also be a separate sign up genius for meets. Junior Coaches are not required to attend every practice or meet. This way our more busy teens are still able to help out with the team and learn about what it is like to be a part of the coaching staff. 

Practice Responsibilities 

Help with the 6 & unders who are novice swimmers 

Set up and take down pool deck 

Assist in watching swimmers and correcting swim technique during other age groups

Meet Responsibilities 

Junior Coaches would be asked to arrive when the coaching staff arrives at each meet. These times will change meet to meet. 

Help set up and take down the pool deck (flags, lanes, chairs, bullpens, etc.). 

During the meet you will be helping the bullpen parents. This year we are bringing back the chairs in the bullpens, where you will sit the swimmers in the chairs in the lanes that they will be swimming in. Then 4 events before they swim you will move those swimmers to the lanes and sit them in the chairs. Also assisting bullpen parents moving the swimmers to the opposite side of the pool for relays.

Now is the perfect time to start back lessons for this swim season. There are so many great places in our area that offer all ranges of lessons or swim team like practices. Remember swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted to be apart of the Harrington Falls Swim Team.
